Yes Carter! I loved living in Tennessee for similar reasons. People would offer up “oh you’re from California. People aren’t racist there.” What? They sure are! The beauty of living in the south is you can plainly see what you’re fighting for. It was the most activated I’ve ever been. I’m sorry any person would not want to see you as you see yourself.

YES dude - I grew up in Oregon and was raised with some wildddddd ideas about the South, and it was only after living here that I could see the racism, classism, and real violence that plays out in northern states every day. It's a whole-country issue, and my hope is that northerners who don't already do this work can begin to dig into their own region's history and realize the ties that bind them to the South. Big solidarity to you out there! <3
