HOT DOG BALL
On Saturday in MPLS, my favorite show of the year's going down
PSSSSST — before I go any further in this email, all my MINNEAPOLIS-SAINT PAUL and INTREPID MINNESOTA/WISCONSIN/IOWA BASED CREEKHEADS TO THE FRONT:
This Saturday August 8, my album release show THE HOT DOG BALL is going down at The Cedar in Minneapolis and it’s gonna be my favorite show I play this year, I can already tell!
Here’s what’s up:
🏳️⚧️ 3 trans bands, including Jo Kellen of Products Band and Pine & Fire from the north woods
🌭 A custom hot dog called SEIZE THE BEANS PEASANT DOG being served all night at The Weinery next door that you can take yours, meat or soy, into the venue with you
👑 Medieval hot dog-themed costumes, just for the hell of it, just to look wild and weird and fun — bring out your Renn Faire stuff and your hot dog suits!
🪕 A RARE full band show from me in which we play the entire album, start to finish
🤝 Easy parking, a seated section, central AC, places to rest inside and outside to keep from getting overstimulated, alcoholic and non-alcoholic bevs, all at a beautiful venue that has always organized in the streets with the rest of us
I’ve truly never worked harder on a show than this one, and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime night — it’ll never be this way again. So whether you come for the whole thing, one set only, or just to buy one of my coveted prayer cards or hot dog tshirts (!!!), I really hope that if you’re in town, you come out to this one! It would mean the world to me to celebrate this record with you!
OKAY NOW FOR ALL OF US:
FRIENDS.
SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED THIS SUMMER.
First: ‘PEASANTS REVOLT’ has officially been out for 2 weeks????? Holy shit????????
And so so many of you have been listening to it on records and CDs and streaming platforms and the radio, in your gardens and on your commutes and even in an actual Weiner mobile?????
AND, so many of you have been listening and hyping it up that “Cutbank of Cleves” got featured on an official Spotify playlist for the first time ever (fuck Spotify but also venue bookers loooove that shit so it’s actually so helpful)…
and wonderful publications like KLOF and No Depression and Ed Helms (as in Andy from “The Office”) and Rainbow Rodeo are calling it “one of the most important albums of the year”…
and also ANN POWERS FROM NPR GAVE IT A GLOWING REVIEW????????
I’ll have more to say when I’m done rehearsing and making an outfit and finding hot dog paraphernalia for Hot Dog Ball this Saturday, and I get my brain back a little more. But in the meantime, I need y’all here on this newsletter to know how fucking grateful I am for every second you’ve spent engaging with my art in any way. It’s an honor to hear what you think, where you’re listening, why certain lyrics mean something to you. It’s an honor to get asked for the chords to my songs. And it’s an honor to get to play them for you.
Slowly but surely, I’m getting back on the road again, so before anyone else finds out here’s a preview:
8/8 Minneapolis, MN → The Cedar (full band)
8/20 Ames, IA → Alluvial Brewing (full band)
8/29 La Crosse, WI → Great River Folk Festival
9/3 Del Norte, CO → Trade & Post
9/4 Durango, CO → Toast Records & Tapes
9/24 Galveston, TX → Old Quarter Cafe (full band)
9/25 San Antonio, TX → The Lonesome Rose (full band)
9/26 Dallas, TX → Poor David’s (full band)
9/27 Austin, TX → RADIO/EAST (full band/album release show)
But before I hit the road again, just know that after the big party Saturday, I’m gonna be redneck river sittin’ for 3 days straight. My ass is gonna be in the water, on a folding chair, with a beer in my hand and a book in the other, and I’ll be able to rest easy because the people who like my music are some of the kindest, most generous people in the world. Thank yall for going on this ride with me.
PEASANTS FOREVER, PEASANTS FOR ALWAYS
<3 Carter
