First Look: Creekbed Carter x Jude Brothers EP
Horror musings, monastery recordings, and looking up to cows
My bud Jude and I are at work on a super-secret project that I’m gonna give you a sneak peek of in a minute… but first, book news! This past week I went to one of my favorite places on earth: Arkansas!
When the horror book club at Two Friends Books in Bentonville chose my short story collection, One or Several Deserts, for their book of the month and asked me to come speak at their meeting, there’s no way I could refuse. Getting to chat with a bunch of super insightful readers about body horror? Hellllll yeah. So I drove 9 hours from Austin to the mountain biking capital of the world to meet the sweetest, loveliest group of readers I’ve met in a minute.
We talked sentence-level scaries, jump scares vs facing our own emotional truths, and sharp line-reads, and I answered some truly insightful questions about process and the importance of horror’s ability to “read the damn room.” They even let me join their Secret Santa book exchange after. HUGE shout-out to Morgan for inviting me up! If you’re ever in Bentonville, don’t sleep on Two Friends!
Creekbed Carter x Jude Brothers, “If Bread & Roses Grew On Trees”
For the rest of the week, I stayed with my bro and musician collaborator Jude Brothers in Fayetteville so we could burn stuff, play extremely competitive card games at AM/PM with some of my favorite Fayetteville people, sing Gaelic songs to cows, and work on a super-secret EP project we’re calling “If Bread & Roses Grew On Trees.”
